The Pet Spot is led by an exceptional duo who bring decades of combined experience and genuine passion to pet care. Kari Campbell, our Certified Professional Animal Care Operator and majority owner, has over thirty years in the pet care industry, including eighteen years operating her own successful facility in Alaska. Her expertise spans education, coaching, and nonprofit work, all focused on delivering the highest quality care through compassion and transparency. Alongside her is Alex McCarl, our General Manager and co-owner, whose journey began as a college student seeking a place to care for his own pets and evolved into discovering his true calling. Born and raised in Colorado with a family background in animal rescue – having fostered over 200 dogs – Alex brings local knowledge, professional dedication, and heartfelt care to every interaction. Together, these two Boulder residents have transformed The Pet Spot from a corporate-owned facility to a locally-owned business, ensuring your beloved companions receive family-level love and expert attention from people who truly call this community home.

Alex McCarl
Co-Owner
General Manager

Welcome to The Pet Spot! My name is Alex McCarl and I am absolutely ecstatic to be the General Manager of this facility. I have worked at The Pet Spot since October of 2022 and what a rewarding experience it has been. My tenure at The Pet Spot began while attending college at CU Boulder (sko buffs!) while seeking a place wherein I could work and take care of my puppies simultaneously. As time went on it became quickly apparent that this is what I was meant to do!

Born and raised in Evergreen Colorado, I come from a very pet-centric family. Between my family’s chickens, ducks, dogs, snails, and various other critters, taking care of animals is in my nature! While I was in High School, my family fostered over 200 dogs and found loving homes for all of them. I am eager to provide professional, intelligent, and sincere care for all of your animals great and small. Whatever critter may be your best friend, whether it’s a cat, dog, or something more exotic, you can rest assured they are loved like family at The Pet Spot. We hope to see you soon!

Our Mission

At The Pet Spot, we are uncompromisingly pet-centric in everything we do. Our singular mission is to provide exceptional care for every animal that walks through our doors by maintaining the highest standards in three fundamental areas: transparent communication with pet parents, continuous training and education for our staff, and the implementation of scientifically proven approaches in all aspects of animal care. We believe that outstanding pet care requires more than just love – it demands expertise, evidence-based practices, and honest, open dialogue with the families who trust us with their beloved companions. Every decision we make, from our daily routines to our long-term planning, is guided by one simple question: what is best for the animals in our care? This unwavering commitment to pet-first thinking ensures that your furry family members receive not just care, but truly exceptional care that you can trust and depend on.
